Ozone Applications in Poultry Farms

Ozone application in poultry production farms involves the ozonation of drinking and utility water, which helps to eliminate harmful bacteria (such as E. coli, Salmonella, etc.) transmitted through drinking water to the chickens. Chickens raised in ozone-treated houses experience fewer illnesses, and with reduced vaccination and medication usage, healthier and higher-quality products are offered to consumers. By preventing the formation of biofilm layers in drinkers and water nipples, clean and healthy water consumption is ensured during the chick/chicken growth stage.

The ozonation and use of water in significant quantities in poultry slaughterhouses are crucial for disinfection purposes.

Another application of ozone gas in the poultry industry is the disinfection of incubators, brooders, and production farms. Ozone gas is an important and effective solution for eliminating harmful microorganisms such as E. coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, etc., which increase the risk of diseases and mortality rates. When applied to eggs, ozone reduces the microbial load on the eggshells when washed with ozonated water. Additionally, ozone-treated incubation chambers show a reduction of 75-99% in Salmonella and total viable counts in the air. In the storage of eggs, high humidity is required to prevent shrinkage caused by moisture loss from the eggs. However, high humidity promotes mold development. In an ozone atmosphere, eggs stored at 90% humidity and 0°C can be stored for up to 8 months without mold growth.

Benefits of Ozone Use in Poultry Production:

  • Breaks down gases in the farm environment, improving air quality and preventing bacterial growth.
  • Promotes healthier nutrition for chicks and chickens.
  • Improves environmental factors, reducing the incidence of animal diseases.
  • Reduces the need for vaccinations and medications in production.
  • Leaves no residue on the product and is environmentally friendly.
  • Significantly reduces the microbial load and extends the shelf life of the product."
