Performance Evaluations of Ozone Air and Drinking Water Ozonation System Application Studies in Poultry Houses

A study was conducted on a farm consisting of a total of 14 poultry houses, where two separate houses underwent a specific treatment.

In the treatment houses, rough cleaning of the interior was performed, followed by washing and drying with disinfectants. After placing clean bedding material, the air in the houses was subjected to ozone treatment using the DEZENMATİK 30 SDOx device for four hours.

When the microbiological analysis results of air samples taken before ozone treatment, samples from the walls of the houses, and swab samples from the water lines and nipples were compared with the samples taken after four hours of ozone treatment, the following observations were made:

  • There was a 95% reduction in total viable microbial count in the air samples.
  • Swab samples showed a 95% reduction in total viable microbial count and a 100% reduction in coliform bacteria count.

The effects of water ozonation system application, which aimed to microbiologically and chemically improve the drinking water and provide oxygen-enriched water to the poultry, were examined in the two treatment houses.

The water ozonation system application measures and reports the levels of ozone (O3), oxygen (O2), and redox values in the water in real-time. It also allows remote control and adjustment of these levels to desired values.

During the water ozonation system application, the ozone levels were maintained at an average of 100 ppb (70/130) for the first two weeks, an average of 150 ppb (130/180) for the following three weeks (weeks 3-5), and an average of 200 ppb (180/250) until the end of the final period before slaughter, after dilution.

In order to monitor and intervene when necessary, the measurement of ammonia and carbon dioxide levels inside the poultry houses, which is another important factor affecting productivity in chicken farming, was carried out using an automated air quality control system in the experimental houses. This allowed for the control of the indoor environment.
